Mteto Nyati has been managing director of Microsoft South Africa since September 2008. A key part of Mr. Nyati’s job is to drive Microsoft’s innovation and leadership across the company’s core businesses in key markets. He has also been integral to the development and implementation of Microsoft’s 4Afrika Initiative, a multi-year initiative which aims to actively engage in Africa’s economic development to improve its global competitiveness. Mr. Nyati has won the coveted Black Management Forum’s Manager of The Year award in 2012, the Oliver Empowerment’s Male Business Personality in 2013 and IT Web’s 2013 IT Personality of the Year. Mr Nyati spent 12 years at IBM, where he held a series of senior executive roles. He matriculated from St John’s College in Umtata in 1980 and was given a scholarship by Afrox and achieved a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Natal in 1985.
